Coalition Asks Congress to Respect General Petraeus

Contact: Sarah Rode, Concerned Women for America, 202-488-7000 ext. 127

WASHINGTON, Sept. 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) sent a letter today to every Senator and Representative urging them to vote in favor of resolutions that condemn attacks on the honor and character of General Petraeus.  The letter was signed by over 40 leaders of veterans groups, pro-family groups, opinion leaders and public policy organizations.

Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) and House Minority Leader Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) introduced resolutions that condemn personal attacks by MoveOn.org on the character of Gen. Petraeus.  The extremist group published an ad in the New York Times calling the leader of the Multi-National Force in Iraq, "General Betray Us."

Wendy Wright, President of CWA stated, "Gen. Petraeus is a patriot with an esteemed record of serving our country and defending our freedom. While it is legitimate to ask questions of Gen. Petraeus' assessment, it is vile to question his commitment to his country by insinuating that he is a traitor.  Americans have the privilege of criticizing U.S. policies thanks to Gen. Petraeus and those who serve under him in our military.

"This is a man who has served his country faithfully for over 30 years in the U.S. Army and is currently serving his 3rd year-long deployment in Iraq.  He has sacrificed being with his family and safety at home.  He stepped up to the plate when his country needed him the most and should be applauded for his commitment to his country.

"Members of Congress can prove that MoveOn.org does not speak for them when it calls Gen. Petraeus a traitor by voting in favor of these resolutions."
