COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 22 /Christian Newswire/ -- Children and teens whose grandparents are actively involved in their lives have fewer emotional problems, according to a study published in the American Psychological Association's February Journal of Family Psychology. That has prompted a local nonprofit to partner with a dozen churches to show local grandparents just how to be effectively involved in their grandchildren's life, even in challenging situations like single parent households and stepfamilies.
The Legacy Conference, put on by Christian Grandparenting Network, will be held May 1-2, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
"The APA findings highlight what Christian Grandparenting Network is all about," says CGN founder and president Cavin Harper. "We know how important it is for grandparents to be involved in their grandchildren's' lives, but we also know how hard it is for grandparents to be involved these days. This conference will enable attendees to leave a legacy of hope, stability, and a deeper faith, no matter what circumstances they or their grandchildren are presently in."
The Legacy Conference will feature keynote speaker John Coulombe, a grandfather of six and a pastor focused specifically on helping grandparents achieve maximum effectiveness with their grandchildren, even in difficult circumstances. A variety of workshops will also be offered at the conference, from "Relating to the Next Generation" to "Passing Along Your Faith." The fee for attending the conference is $50 per person for registrations received through April 30 and covers all the costs for the workshops, lunch, snacks, general sessions, and materials.
Individuals interested in attending the Legacy Conference may register online at www.legacyconference.com by April 30, 2009 to secure the lowest rate. Additional information can be found on the website or by calling Christian Grandparenting Network Executive Director Cavin Harper at (719) 522-1404.
