ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- "In the past 10 days, I and four other individuals have been arrested at St. Thomas More Cathedral in VA for handing out Faithful Catholic Citizenship. (Read flyer at www.humbleplea.com) I asked the other four to briefly tell why they took this action. As you will see, these are top-shelf people, who take this very seriously." Randall Terry, Founder, Operation Rescue, Washington DC.
"The faithful groan for their bishop to be courageous for the sake of the unborn. More civil unrest amongst the laity will come if our bishops do not take a clear stand against child killing. The pedophilia scandals show what can happen when the faithful are incensed. The bishops at large knew of the pedophiles, but did not deal with it until they had massive pressure from the media and faithful laity. Hopefully we can cause a similar result for the sake of unborn children." -- Joseph Landry, Franciscan University of Steubenville, BA Theology, Philosophy, Pre-Theology
"Many Catholics plan to vote for Obama because they are not being educated correctly, or reproved. The Church seems to be motivated by financial considerations (tax-exempt status) and fear - neither of which is a legitimate motive to refrain from speaking the truth. I was arrested to call attention to the apathy which is present in the hierarchy of the Church. Hopefully the laity will demand that Church leaders speak up regarding this election before it is too late; it is immoral to vote for Barack Obama, and no Christian can do so in good conscience." -- Diana Roccograndi, Engineer and Geometry Teacher
"I'm a former seminarian who left pursuit of the priesthood due to the homosexual scandals of the 1980's. The bishops stayed silent then; look at the fruit of their silence 20 years later. I will not stay silent while babies are slaughtered and the princes of the Church stand aloof, apparently more interested in their social status than standing up for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This was an easy decision for me, and my prayer is that others will follow this lead, and decide to act. Christianity is not a spectator sport, and each of us will be ultimately responsible for our action and inaction.
"I decided to practice 'civil disobedience' because of what I believe is an unauthorized restraint on the practice of my faith. I will not follow the lead of bishops who (as in the homosexual scandal) do not stand up for the moral teachings of the Church. We cannot vote for someone like Obama, who is committed to the murder of children." -- George Offerman, MSW Catholic University; Psychotherapist.
"I am a Marine veteran, and I do not want the next Commander in Chief to be filling our own mass graves with the bodies of aborted babies. History shows what happens to such tyrants. The Church must be faithful in proclaiming the Gospel of Life to everyone.
"Our goal is not to get arrested, but to share the words of our late Pope, John Paul II without reprisal and without Church leadership getting the state involved and having us arrested. What we are doing is the mission of the Church faithful as a whole. Obama is a radical champion of abortion. No Catholic can in good conscience vote for such a man. But because of 'jeopardizing the tax exempt status,' that kind of clarity is lacking from the pulpit - so we are doing the job." -- Brian Sherwood, Marine Veteran
