Christian Newswire/ -- The Global Orphan Project (GO Project) announces the Tour d'Uganda, 2012! Next January 7th through the 17th, twenty-one riders will bike more than 250 miles across the beautiful country of Uganda. Along the way, the Tour will stop at three GO Project-partner villages caring for orphaned and abandoned children. The Tour will also visit sewing centers, which provide quality jobs for women in the community and whose profits are used to sustain orphan care operations. Finally, the Tour team will worship with the local church. In the evenings, Tour riders will enjoy the accommodations and cuisine at leading resorts like
Arcadia Cottages and
Mihingo Lodge.
While mountainous cycling climbs, breathtaking views, and Ugandan hospitality are attractive, the Tour d'Uganda is much more than another adventure vacation. Riders will be exposed to the heart of church-led, culturally-relevant, sustainable, Third-World orphan care, as they personally interact with children at GO Project-partner villages. Each rider's donation of $15,000 to The Global Orphan Project helps advance this work and covers all costs for the Tour (travel, lodging, food, a cyclocross bike, etc.).
Earlier this year, The Global Orphan Project and GO Adventures hosted the inaugural Tour d'Haiti, which honored the resilience of the Haitian people and delivered bicycles to children on the one-year anniversary of the earthquake. About the Tour d'Uganda
The Tour d'Uganda is open to any person age 18 or older who can ride 250 miles over seven days. Space is limited. Each participant makes a donation of $15,000, which is largely tax deductible, to The Global Orphan Project. Participants receive lodging, food, air and ground transportation. Participants will also be provided with a bike and accessories.
