ARLINGTON, Texas, April 5, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Members of the families of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and historical author Alex Haley will participate in a "repentance, sanctification and racial reconciliation" event during United Cry DC16 on April 9, 2016 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.  Citing Amos 5:24, members of the Alex Haley and King families will take part in a special "foot washing and mantle passing ceremony."

"We are in a time where there is a desire by the forces of darkness to rip asunder our unity, dignity and cause strife," says Bishop Harry Jackson Jr., Senior Pastor of Hope Christian Church in Beltsville, Maryland and founding member of The Reconciled Church Initiative which is hosting the segment. "We want to focus on honoring the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and inspire others to be bridges of hope, " Jackson asserted.

United Cry DC16 is multi-denominational gathering pastors and Christian leaders to pray for America's healing, April 9 from 8:30 am – 4 pm. The prayer focus includes repentance for division, national sins and empowering pastors to be change agents in their communities.

Organizers of the "reconciliation piece" have said that the year 2016 is a "mega Jubilee Year," which is why many are so excited to participate in "racial reconciliation" on the anniversary of the ending of the Civil War. The segment will begin with the remarkable "Prayer Kettle" story and followed by the redemptive testimony of Will Ford and Matt Lockett. After a ten year friendship, they discovered that pre-civil war, Ford's slave ancestors were owned by Lockett's family members.

National prayer and racial reconciliation are the focus of two major events on April 9. A "Bridge of Prayer" will extend from coast to coast as United Cry DC16 links to Azusa Now in Los Angeles.  While there is a scripted schedule, with rousing music and dozens of national leaders and popular personalities praying and ministering, the organizers say "there is a special guest invited, so there will likely be many pleasant surprises."

The event is free but registration is requested for pastors who will be offered resources after the event. The people of America and the world are invited to United Cry DC16 April 9, 2016 at the Lincoln Memorial for a time of revival and spiritual renewal.

In a compelling message at youtu.be/kPna946B0vE, leaders and lay people are being encouraged to pray and repent during this "jubilee occasion."
