NAPLES, Fla., Jan. 26, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- 1Branch Media launched its social network today, offering religious people a unique online environment for community as well as wide-ranging discussions on important topics. The site, which is open to all religions and Christian denominations, is designed to give member the opportunity to share all that they find positive with their faith as well as a chance to explore difficult questions amongst themselves. The site gets its name from John 15:5, in which Jesus said, "I am the Vine. You are the branches."

"The spirit of 1Branch is to embrace the totality of the religious experience," said Paul Etienne.  "I want to enable people to talk about issues that really matter to them, even if they are considered off limits. I realize that our approach might be controversial, but if it's important, it's worth doing."

1Branch has many features common to social networks. Members have a personal profile with a news feed or Mural. Users can also message each privately. A special broadcast section contains videos related to the Christian faith. The site features a "Prayer Box," where members can help bear one another's burdens. Users can post prayer requests and everyone within their denomination can see it and pray.

1Branch does differ from other social networks in several ways, though: When a user signs up, he or she will be asked to enter a denomination. This is the "Branching" section. Branching offers two streams - "Dirty Laundry" and "General" - which are specific to the chosen denomination. Dirty Laundry allows posters to post freely and anonymously about things they don't like, understand, or that confuse them, and even about secrets a denomination may have. Anyone (within the denomination branch) can comment on the posts to bring answers and clarification.

1Branch's founders believe that all Christians will benefit from joining. Pastors and church leaders, as well, can gain valuable insights about their churches from the dialogue that occurs on 1Branch.
