WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, and the Rev. Rob Schenck, President of Faith and Action, had a face to face meeting with Dr. Dean at the DNC headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Friday, October 12.
At the meeting, the ministers discussed ways that a national conversation could begin between Evangelicals and Democrats searching for meaningful and principled solutions to the serious challenges facing America.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, "It is important to remember that God has called Christians to stand on principles of justice, mercy and truth. We are not called to be republicans or democrats, or liberals or conservatives. We are called, however, to be followers of Christ and not partisan politics. I welcome this national conversation with the Democratic National Committee and hope that we can all work together to find meaningful solutions to the very serious problems facing our nation. As evangelicals, we can enter this dialogue without surrendering our faith values or core beliefs. Rather, we can openly and passionately share our core values in a spirit of honesty, humility and love."
Rev. Rob Schenck, President of Faith and Actions, adds, "The Bible commands us to always be ready to give and answer for the hope that is in us with all meekness. That is why we have proposed to have this very public conversation with Dr. Dean and the Democratic National Committee. We will set forth what and why we believe and also share what that means for Evangelicals and the Democratic Party."
