MEDIA ADVISORY, June 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Pro-Life teachers, parents, and students are mobilizing to peaceably and prayerfully picket the National Education Association's meeting at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Sunday, July 1 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM," announces Bob Pawson, Coordinator of Pro-Life Educators And Students (PLEAS).
"It is vital to focus nationwide attention on the pro-abortion activism of this powerful union's leaders. A union which is supposedly dedicated to protecting children, as well as teachers' jobs. Twenty-five abortions equal one lost classroom, one lost teaching career, and a catastrophic loss to America's future."
Pro-Lifers across America are urged to picket NEA affiliates in state capitals on Monday, July 2, 11AM–1PM to maximize public awareness and media coverage. Any pro-abortion counter-picketers will generate greater public and media attention. About 10,000 teachers-delegates from all fifty states will attend the NEA Convention.
"Ironically, extra inspiration for Philadelphia pro-lifers to picket the NEA Convention resulted from City Council's recent vote, at Planned Parenthood's behest, declaring Philadelphia a 'Pro-Choice City'. Although Council rescinded the label six days later, the original decision irritated, motivated, and activated many Philadelphia pro-lifers determined to refute and rebuke that obnoxious resolution," said Pawson.
The primary organizers of the pro-life demonstration at the NEA Convention are Bob Pawson of PLEAS, John Tomicki of the League of American Families (LOAF), and Pastor Clenard H. Childress, Jr. of Life Education And Resources Network (LEARN). "To recruit as many pro-lifers as possible, we sent information to groups like the Pro-Life Coalitions of Bucks & Chester Counties, Generation LIFE, Right to Life chapters, Priests for Life, Pro-Life Action League, Operation Save America, Operation Rescue, and Life Chain," said Pawson, an NEA/NJEA member himself, who teaches computer classes in the Trenton Public Schools.
"We are taking to task the leadership of America's largest and most socio-politically meddlesome union, for essentially misrepresenting many teachers on the abortion issue. We teachers and school employees love children. It's insane for our union's leadership to condone, much less promote, the killing of babies in their mothers' wombs. In addition to the moral outrage, it's economic suicide. We resent having our dues monies and good names used to misrepresent us on moral, social or political issues. NEA must abandon its 'Family Planning' Resolution I-13 and other policies, out of respect for the diversity of 3.2 million members," said Pawson.
