WASHINGTON, July 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Coalition says Congress has failed to adequately address how major military decisions will impact the future of Iraq and her people.
Group says the United States cannot abandon the heroic efforts of millions of Iraqis who have lost loved ones and suffered terrible violence in their determined struggle to achieve peace and security for Iraq.
Coalition also troubled that many in Congress have demeaned and diminished the Iraqi people by portraying them as incapable of achieving stability and freedom for their nation.
The Christian Defense Coalition is leading a historic prayer delegation to Iraq this August.
Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, comments, "I have been deeply troubled by Congressional leadership's failure to consider the future and plight of the Iraqi people during the recent debates on the war. During this critical time, the United States cannot abandon the heroic effort of millions of Iraqi people who are suffering through continual violence in their struggle for freedom and security.
"Over the past several years, I have talked with many Iraqis who have had to brave the most terrible of conditions just to vote. And many of them have lost loved ones and friends because they have spoken out and worked for freedom. Our nation must do all within its power to ensure that the Iraqi people have the best possible environment to achieve stability for their nation.
"I urge and pray for Congress in the midst of all these critical discussions on the war, not to forget Iraq, her people and her children."
