ENUMCLAW, Wash., May 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mr. Dick Adams' first book, "Talking Back to God," reflects a lifetime of prayers and daily prayerful meditations. Written in casual, conversational tone, each entry reflects a response to a specific statement made by Jesus in the Bible.
"Prayer is communicating, or talking with God; it is primarily for me to listen to God's word, his will for me. Brother Lawrence wrote that his best praying was not at the stated times of worship, as in church services. His best prayers were while engaged in productive labor, such as when his arms were up to their elbows in dishwater. I should pray wherever I need God's guidance. This may be during the most tumultuous times of my existence."
Mr. Dick Adams was born to Presbyterian missionary parents in Korea where he lived until he was 11 years old. Dick's grandfather was the first resident missionary in Taegu, Korea, and his father, two uncles, an aunt, a great-aunt, and three cousins all served as missionaries in Korea.
While Adams attended the University of California, the Korean War broke out and the U.S. Army recruited him to serve in an intelligence capacity. Adams used his military experience and knowledge of Korea to successfully apply for employment with the Central Intelligence Agency. His duties took him to Asia, Africa, and Europe. He retired in l978 in order to serve God in a volunteer capacity.
Throughout his life, Adams attended college in a number of locations: Whitworth College, Spokane, Washington (one year), the University of California (three years), Yonse University in Seoul, Korea, George Washington University and University of Virginia, as well as considerable study at the State Department Foreign Service Institute and other training of a confidential nature.
Four years ago, Dick lost his wife of 54 years. Three years ago he remarried; he and his wife have four children, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three step-children, and seven step-grandchildren. Today, Dick is a retired intelligence officer and lives in New Hampshire. He enjoys traveling, experiencing new cultures and cuisines, and singing.
