SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Jan. 24, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Rescued: The Heart of Adoption and Caring for Orphans," a soon-to-be-released documentary on the plight of orphans has succeeded in placing alongside major motion pictures as a semi-finalist at the 2012 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (SAICFF), competing for the $101,000 'Best of Festival Award.' Also vying for the prestigious award are high profile films including "Courageous," "Seven Days in Utopia," and Ray Comfort's "180 Movie."
Releasing on February 24th, "Rescued" tells the adoption stories of several Christian families while exploring how the church can come alongside families who choose to adopt. The film was a joint production by Wintons Motion Pictures and Hedrick Brothers Productions, who traveled across the US to interview adoptive families and pastors. The DVD release will be preceded by nationwide screenings in cooperation with National Movie Night.
The producers of "Rescued" are delighted that their film is a Best Documentary semi-finalist at the SAICFF, which is being held February 23-25. "It's truly an honor to be selected at a festival where the competition is strong," says Randy Winton, the film's producer. "Most SAICFF entrees don't make it to this level."
Several noted Christian leaders have already praised the film, including Jedd Medefind, president of Christian Alliance for Orphans. He says, "'Rescued' provides moving story-windows into the robust response of one branch of the Church to God's call to care for the orphan in distress."
Noted author, Douglas Bond, says, "Not since my time in Uganda have I felt so powerfully the urge to drop everything, knock down some walls, and fill our house to overflowing with the precious fatherless. I cannot recommend this excellent film highly enough."
"'Rescued' is a powerful, beautiful, and practical vision of how the Gospel can and should be brought to life in our day, in our churches, and in our families," says Dr. George Grant, president at King's Meadow Study Center.
Winton produced "Rescued" with his sons, Cody and Jesse, and also co-produced the film with Greg Hedrick and his sons Jonathan and Joshua. The Winton and Hedrick families both have adopted children and live in California and Virginia respectively, where they each produce independent Christian films. The Wintons also have a family bluegrass band.
