RALEIGH, N.C., July 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- A few months ago, Christian Library International began providing its prayer warriors "prayer cuffs" as a reminder to pray for a certain inmate. CLI distributes Christian books, Bibles, free of charge, to the incarcerated. CLI volunteers correspond with many Christians behind bars through the CLI Bible study. Prison inmates are in dire need of prayer in order to stand firm in the midst of every day persecution and temptation.
The "prayer cuffs" are bright blue wrist bands which remind us that we are "handcuffed" to an inmate in prayer. Only his first name and his or her place of incarceration is revealed. Our focus is prayer for the inmate and not a personal relationship.
Here's one volunteer's story: I requested one of these cuffs but wondered how I would do this since I knew nothing but the inmate's name (Tad) and his place of incarceration (Florida). The day that I slipped on the cuff was a beautiful spring day and I took a walk. It was easy to marvel at all the trees and flowers in bloom and to thank God for being able to enjoy them. I began to think of Tad and prayed that even within the prison walls he might see some sign of spring that would delight him and motivate him to thank the Creator.
I intend to keep on praying for Tad. It has made me more aware of all that I have to be thankful for, and it has made me realize that his needs, and the needs of all inmates, are similar to mine.
