DALLAS, April 25, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian Men's Network (CMN), a global men's movement provided proof of results from mentoring men of all ages using their men's curriculum which is anchored by the perennial men's bestseller "Maximized Manhood" at the Lion's Roar 2013 Global Men's Summit last week held in Dallas, Texas.
Leaders from 54 nations attended the Lions Roar summit in person and through a live Internet feed to hear multiple presentations that proved results such as the reduction of disciplinary incidents in schools that adopted the curriculum, the decrease in AIDS/HIV in African nations that have mentored men through the principles of the curriculum, the reduction of recidivism in prisons teaching it, as well as other demonstrated results in churches, communities, businesses, and nations.
"Our teams brought in thrilling reports from around the globe," said CMN President Paul Louis Cole, the son of CMN founder and "Maximized Manhood" author Edwin Louis Cole. "We're ecstatic to see real change in tough circumstances, especially because every statistic represents real lives -- men, families, children who have found health, new life and clear direction."
CMN is a global mentoring movement established in 1977 that has been making an impact in the lives of men for over three decades and is now active in over 100 nations. One method of using the curriculum is with at-risk children through the Men and Ladies of Honor program headed by former public school principal Tony Rorie, who brought more than 20 young men to the Lions Roar summit.
"Everywhere we have been able to implement the curriculum, which has been adapted for public schools, we see as high as 80 percent decreases in disciplinary incident rates (DIR) and strong increases in attendance (ADA)," stated Rorie. "We have empirically proven that the CMN curriculum makes a massive difference in the social health of a school, leading to a huge drop in bullying, drugs and violence."
Robert Barriger, a recognized cultural leader in Peru stated, "In the thirteen years we have worked with the men and families from high-risk areas, no other method of training or programs for social health have worked like 'Maximized Manhood.' We are actively taking this to meet the desperate need across Latin America."
Eddy Leo is a noted leader in Indonesian social health reform and founder of CMN Indonesia that now has 62 men's centers across the nation. He stated, "Many of our teams after going through this training have made huge efforts in the areas of our nation that were desperately in need of leadership and community health. We have taken over one quarter of a million men through this curriculum with tremendous results, and in the next year, we will reach another one-hundred thousand men."
In the high-profile county jail system of Maricopa County, Arizona, the expected recidivism is the national average of 40 percent. After implementing the CMN curriculum for more than three years, out of 425 inmates going through it, less than 10 returned into the prison system. Two inmates asked the judge to allow them to stay in prison to complete the curriculum. On the last day of the Lions Roar summit, attendees spontaneously gave money to purchase more books for that prison.
Rev. Dwayne Pickett Sr., a leading African-American civic organizer who came with two dozen men to Lions Roar stated, "Mentoring boys into being responsible men, training them to accept the responsibilities of manhood is a proven method of building strong fathers, and healthy children. Mentoring is the bridge that makes it happen. In our community of Jackson, Mississippi and every other inner city we've observed, we see tremendous results."
Daniel Kwaku a German national building a training center in Ghana quoted the CMN theme, "Our belief is that men and nations are not great by virtue of their wealth, but by the wealth of their virtue." This is more than just a theme in Uganda, where noted national leader Alex Mitala has led a movement that captivated the nation at the epicenter of the AIDS epidemic.
"When we began to teach the principles of maturity, integrity and sexual responsibility, people thought we were doomed to fail," Mitala stated at the Lions Roar summit. "But 20 years into this program, every school, village and church in our nation is involved on some level. I am pleased to report that the rate of HIV infections has gone from 33 percent of our entire nation in 1988 to last year the U.N. reported a rate of 6.4 percent. We thank God for CMN, this has saved thousands of lives in our nation and across East Africa!"
"Christian Men's Network is not a ministry, it's a mentoring movement that changes lives," stated Cole as he presented a new emphasis to protect abused and neglected children by mentoring fathers, a program to be formed over the next year and formally launched at the 2014 Lions Roar on October 1-3, 2014. "New construction is always easier than reconstruction. We need to mentor the young men in the schools or else settle for rehabilitating the older men in the prisons."
Cole believes that addressing the link between fatherlessness and child abuse is a key to helping reach the next generation of young men. He stated, "With up to 75 percent of children in certain school districts without a father in the home, with fathers discarding the responsibilities of manhood and the rise of a culture of crudeness among men, the abuse and neglect of children has risen to epidemic proportions worldwide."
The challenge to mentor fathers resonated with the men attending Lions Roar. "We're not raising sons, we're raising the next generation of fathers," tweeted Mike Schmitz, one of thousands of men who watched Lions Roar online.
To underscore the ministry's multi-generational reach, men who brought their sons to Lions Roar took the stage on the last day of the conference. "Today we have the grandchildren of men who attended the first classes now completing the course and being commissioned to reach more men," stated Cole. "The reason for our global growth is because the CMN curriculum works and we have over thirty years of stories of how Maximized Manhood has changed hearts and lives around the world. It is humbling and astonishing."
CMN's world-renowned "Majoring in Men®" curriculum has become the most successful men's mentoring material of its kind, adopted by two major denominations and endorsed by over 8 million men. Rev. Bill Terry of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and Rev. David Gosnell of the Church of God, Cleveland, Tennessee, both presented at the Lions Roar summit on behalf of their denominations, which have adopted Majoring in Men® as their resource for international men's ministry.
