MEDIA ADVISORY, August 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- CURE International, a U.S.-based non-profit organization providing medical relief in developing nations, is one of several groups active in Afghanistan, which were recognized by President Karzai today.  CURE International has two representatives available to talk about the kind of work that is being done in Afghanistan, including saving the lives of thousands of mothers and infants who would have been lost in childbirth without this intervention.

Who: Dr. Jacqui Hill and Dr. Qudrat Mojadidi are two physicians affiliated with US-based CURE International's OB/GYN Fellowship in Kabul, Afghanistan, which has helped raise the standard of health care for women there, saving thousands of at-risk mothers and their unborn children.

What: Afghanistan has long had one of the highest mother/infant mortality rates in the world, and Dr. Mojadidi, an Afghan-American, envisioned an OB/GYN training program for native medical personnel, to directly address this problem. CURE International's Hospital in Kabul became the training ground, beginning in January, 2006, and just a year and a half later; thousands of lives have been impacted. Mothers and babies that both would have been lost in childbirth previously have been saved. Modern childbirth techniques and knowledge are being shared with Afghani medical personnel who believe they are 30 years behind the times due to wars in the region.

When & Where: Drs. Hill and Mojadidi are available for interviews via phone, with Dr. Hill available in person in Kabul and Dr. Mojadidi in Virginia.

DETAILS:

• Dr. Jacqui Hill, Medical Director of the CURE Kabul International Hospital, says CURE's OB/GYN medical training and treatment fellowship program "is the finest in Afghanistan by far." Dr. Hill said that "there is a great hunger by doctors in Afghanistan for the knowledge and skills of the West, and we are training and inspiring the Afghans with precious knowledge that can be passed onto others. In addition to treating patients at the Kabul hospital, trained doctors bring their skills to other hospitals, and into rural areas of the country, where there is a real scarcity of competent medical practitioners."

• CURE International is a non-profit, faith-based organization founded ten years ago by Dr. Scott Harrison, operating nine hospitals in eight developing countries around the world, with a mission to bring about physical and spiritual healing to disabled children in poverty-stricken areas where modern medical technology can completely cure conditions such as Clubfoot, Hydrocephalus and Cleft Palate.
