Republican Congressional Leadership Fails America's Children, Their Mothers and the Pro-life Movement by Not Defunding Planned Parenthood

WASHINGTON, Sept. 2, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Majority Leader McConnell said yesterday that Congress will not be able to defund the world's largest abortion provider.

It is now clear that President Obama is more committed to funding Planned Parenthood than Congressional pro-life members are to defunding the organization.

Senator McConnell is misleading the American public by saying we need a pro-life President to defund Planned Parenthood.

The reality is, the Senate and House have enough votes to ensure Planned Parenthood doesn't get a penny by not voting for any piece of legislation that funds them.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Washington,  D.C. based Christian Defense Coalition, states;

    "It is most troubling and disturbing that Senator McConnell and Congressional republican leadership are saying they cannot defund Planned Parenthood.  This is a betrayal of America's children, their mothers and the pro-life community that helped elect them.

    "Simply stated, Senator McConnell is misleading the American public by saying Congress will only be able to defund Planned Parenthood if they have a pro-life President.  This is not true.  Right now, there are enough votes in both the House and Senate to ensure Planned Parenthood doesn't receive a penny.  They simply have to vote against any piece of legislation that would fund them.

    "It appears right now, that President Obama is more committed to funding Planned Parenthood than republican leadership is to defunding them. Congress needs to be reminded that voting to defund Planned Parenthood is not the issue. Actually, defunding Planned Parenthood is the issue of the day.

    "It was only a short time ago that our nation did have a pro-life President, House and Senate and they still refused to defund Planned Parenthood.  Republicans don't need a pro-life President, but rather more courage and moral conviction.

    "With respect to the 2016 national elections, republican leadership is sending a terrible and disheartening message to the pro-life movement in America."
