It is a day for Australian Christians and churches from all denominations to unite together to pray and fast according to 2 Chronicles 7:14 for revival and transformation for Australia. Dr Graham McLennan, head of the National Alliance of Christian Leaders and part of the Prayer Day Team said, "We have been inspired by President Abraham Lincoln in the midst of the chaos of the Civil War called for a National Day of Humiliation, Prayer and Fasting on the 30 March 1863. His proclamation read, 'And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow… yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon… 'It behooves us then, to humble ourselves… to confess our national sins, and to pray for… forgiveness.'

This year's 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting, 10 February – 20 March 2016, is being led by Australia's First Nation People.
