'Today's Christian Woman' Partners with One Million Thumbprints to Support Women in War Zones
As part of their mission to equip women in their faith, Today's Christian Woman partners with organizations seeking to empower women around the world. Through donating $5 from every magazine subscription, TCW will offer financial support and awareness to the work One Million Thumbprints is doing to advocate for women who have faced oppression and violence caused by war.
One Million Thumbprints formed in 2012 after its founder, Belinda Bauman, witnessed firsthand the trauma experienced by women caught in war zones and began to speak out on their behalf. This spring, a team of women representing 1MT will summit Mount Kilimanjaro on March 8, International Women's Day, to bring awareness of women around the world who are affected by war violence.
TCW's Assistant Editor, Joy Beth Smith, will be part of the two-week trip. "One of TCW's goals is to be a safe place for women to come, share experiences, and find strength in each other's presence," Smith says. "Women in war zones need people who will fight for them, who will listen to their stories and be moved to action. TCW provides the perfect outlet for this task, bringing both opportunity and synergy, and I am humbled to play even a small role in this partnership."
Strength for the Climb, a 7-day digital devotional released by One Million Thumbprints, is now available and features a foreword by Lynne Hybels. The devotional, which will also be used by the 1MT team during their climb, guides readers through a process of casting aside their fears and focusing on their own personal summit.
