77-Year Old Organization Offers Churches Partnered with Boy Scouts a Biblical Alternative

HAMBURG, N.Y., July 30, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- In light of the recent announcement by the Boy Scouts of America to allow openly gay men to serve as local troop leaders, churches that host boy scout troops are faced with an important and difficult decision. Do they keep their affiliation with the scouts and support this change or find biblical alternatives for their boys and men?

One solution is a discipleship program called Christian Service Brigade. "Brigade," as it is affectionately known, has hosted programs for boys and young men in local churches for 77 years, with millions of boys benefiting. These programs are influenced by scripture, teach leadership skills, and focus on the spiritual, physical, mental and social development of boys.

"Brigade empowers men in the local church to disciple and mentor boys and young men, through action-based programs and resources," says Scott Haima, President of CSB Ministries. "We encourage and equip strong Christian men to model and teach biblical manhood. We've refined our approach for 77 years, and we understand the needs and unique challenges that churches face."

A biblically based program offers other benefits for churches. According to Barna Research, 59% of Christians leave the church by age 30. This drains the future leadership pool, a problem churches must address. Programs teaching the importance of leadership and service to Christ are one way to combat this issue.

"We were founded in the church" explains Haima. "As the body of Christ undergoes multiple threats from our culture, we'll stand firm with the local church to help equip their boys and men to serve Christ, their congregations and community."
