Lillie Jackson, A Local Homeless Advocate, Overjoyed that Los Angeles Releases Funds to Help the Homeless Today
DOWNEY, Calif., Sept. 22, 2015 /
Christian Newswire/ -- Lillie Jackson along with her husband Zaricor Jackson Jr. (aka SoulDirection1) have been doing outreach ministry to the homeless for many years in the inner-city of Los Angeles. They have witnessed firsthand the neglect of the homeless and have seen the results of how they have been given 30 minutes to leave locations with all their belongings and then the area bull-dozed in a matter of hours losing whatever they couldn't carry. We have interviewed several homeless people who shared their stories with us (
www.youtube.com/user/souldirection1). We have walked the streets and talked to those who are homeless in LA and they have told us how few come to help them. All of them say that they could appreciate some shelter. We are overjoyed that LA has taken a major step in helping the homeless and we applaud them.
The news reports that City Council President Herb Wesson and the council's Homelessness and Poverty Committee along with Mayor Eric Garcetti propose to spend $100 million to reduce the number of people living on city streets. An emergency declaration and the funding will require action by the full City Council. Wesson didn't specify where the money would come from. However, his office says the first rollout of funds — projected for Jan. 1 — would go toward permanent housing and shelter. (ABCNEWS.com)
