WASHINGTON, Sept. 8 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), a minister to elected and appointed officials in Washington, DC, experienced the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in a personal way.

Mr. Schenck lost an acquaintance in Flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon and only days later conducted a memorial service for all the victims at the site. On the day of the attack, using a cell phone, he directed his own adult daughter how to drive away from the US Capitol as threats of another incoming plane were broadcast on radio. That weekend, Mr. Schenck served as a relief chaplain at Ground Zero in New York.

"September 11 and the days following will forever be burned in my memory," Mr. Schenck said. "The sounds, the smells, the people, the sadness.  God can redeem even this kind of tragedy and we can learn critically important lessons from it. I will emphasize that in my sermon."
