LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Real estate markets are down, and in Vegas the ‘house always wins’ – but a new movement called Global Fast promises to double your money in partnership with seven excellent charities.
Global Fast is a movement asking participants to spend a day in fasting and prayer for global change, giving the money they would have spent on food to support excellent global relief charities.
The creators of Global Fast sought out the most efficient and innovative global relief charities and invited them to partner in a global anti-poverty movement based on fasting and charity.
“Not only are these charities some of the very best out there – they’ve agreed to double all donations. It’s a big win for everybody.” says Global Fast founder Rich Halvorson.
Seven charities with a total annual impact of around $1 billion have partnered in the Global Fast effort and agreed to match (double) all contributions made by fasters. Listed below are the seven matching partners, with their Charity Navigator efficiency rating, and their partner project with Global Fast:
1. World Emergency Relief (98.5%) – 10 million meals to Kenya
2. Food For The Poor (96.3%) – Water, food and homes for Haiti
3. Hope Worldwide (91.7%) – Supporting children in Colombia
4. Beyond Borders (87.3%) – End child slavery in Haiti
5. Living Water International (85.7%) – Building wells in Ethiopia
6. Partners Worldwide (84.7%) – New Jobs and Leader Training in Philippines
7. Opportunity International (77.5%) – Micro-Loans in Philippines
The three most efficient partners exceed 90% efficiency – an impressive mark of excellence. Yet all the charities receive high marks on Charity Navigator, Ministry Watch, and other non-profit watchdogs.
Speaker and author Tony Campolo remarks, “Global Fast is a simple idea which will have a profound effect on many people in desperate need.” Campolo is affiliated with Beyond Borders – the Global Fast partner fighting child slavery in Haiti.
The Global Fast kickoff is Feb 21 (Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent). Churches, youth groups or devotees observing Lent are encouraged to fast from food or other luxuries during Lent -- and contribute to these charities who will match contributions made in the name of Global Fast.
