Liberty Counsel Offers to Defend North Carolina Law

ORLANDO, Fla., March 31, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- Liberty Counsel sent a letter yesterday to the North Carolina House and Senate offering pro bono services in defense of the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act. The Act recently was signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory. However, Attorney General Cooper has refused to defend it.

The Act was enacted after the city of Charlotte opened women's public bathrooms to men and now declares that state law overrides all local ordinances concerning wages, employment, and public accommodations. Thus, like the majority of states, the law requires statewide uniformity of nondiscrimination laws.

"Liberty Counsel was encouraged to see the resolve and fortitude of the North Carolina General Assembly and Governor McCrory in enacting this Act. However, the Attorney General's unjustified refusal is a disturbing commentary on modern legal ethics. He is clearly putting his political ambitions above the law," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel.

Liberty Counsel is an international nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.
