WASHINGTON, July 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian Defense Coalition will hold a prayer vigil at the Supreme Court on the eve of the Judge Sonia Sotomayor confirmation hearings.

The vigil will be on Sunday, July 12, at 6:30 P.M. in front of the steps of the United States Supreme Court.

The Sotomayor confirmation hearings begin on Monday, July 13.

Participants will leave roses at the court to remember and draw attention to the over 50,000,000 innocent children that have died from abortions and to pray that Judge Sotomayor embraces justice and human rights.

They will also be praying from Proverbs 21:1 which says, "The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water, he turns it wherever he will."

If confirmed, Judge Sonia Sotomayor will have impact on legal decisions for a generation to come.

On Thursday, July 9, the Christian Defense Coalition and Faith and Action held a prayer and anointing service outside of Hart 216 where the Sotomayor confirmation hearings will take place. You may view this prayer and anointing service online at http://qik.com/video/2134568

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states, "On July 13, the confirmation hearings begin for Judge Sonia Sotomayor who is being considered for the next Supreme Court Justice. If confirmed, her decisions will impact generations to come.

"In response to this, we are gathering at the Supreme Court to pray that God will direct the hearings and guide the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. We will be praying that the truth will be brought out about the record of Judge Sotomayor.

"We will also be praying that if she is confirmed, God will direct her heart to embrace justice and our founding principles. These founding principles support a culture of life, family and freedom of religion.

"We are asking Christians across the nation pray Proverbs 21:1, which proclaims that God can direct and guide those in power. The faith community is not powerless in this process and we believe that God can change and lead the heart of Sonia Sotomayor to make decisions that affirm justice and equality.

"Through prayer, Judge Sotomayor could be the vote that brings down Roe v. Wade.

"We will also be leaving roses to remember the over 50,000,000 children that have died through abortion and call upon the Supreme Court to live up to the words etched on the outside of their building; 'Equal Justice Under Law.'"
