PORTLAND, Ore., April 30, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- A unique mixture of genres, ValLimar Jansen's latest album, "Spirit & Soul," contains elements from gospel and praise and worship while escaping the confines of either genre.
"This is not a gospel record or even a praise and worship record, yet all those elements are here. This is a soul experience. This is a love experience," said Jansen.
The album features a wide array of popular songs from fellow Spirit & Song artists produced and sung with Jansen's signature style, blending soulful sounds, African rhythms and blues riffs with classic Christian rock. Prior to the release of her album, Jansen incorporated these songs into her ministry, which led to the idea and birth of "Spirit & Soul."
"I perform the songs quite differently than the original versions done by the other artists. I put my 'ValLimar Spin' on the songs…perhaps completely changing the 'feel' of the song. Frank [my husband] and I did this same kind of treatment with just about every song on our CD, 'Spirit & Soul.'"
A college professor, leader of worship, workshop presenter, and recurring cantor at Los Angles Religious Education Congress, Jansen sings a wide range of music and is known for her gospel, contemporary Christian and gospel-jazz styles.
