CINCINNATI, Nov. 12, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- Thanksgiving is coming – but instead of focusing on blessings of family and the tastes and smells of the season, too many Christian women struggle with unbearable loads and heartache because they rely on what they can achieve on their own, according to Christian author and speaker Kimberly Atkins.

"When you imagine your Thanksgiving table, if all you can see is that son with a drug problem or a daughter who is cutting herself and you feel overwhelmed, know this: God's glory is for you," Atkins says. "Ask God and He can transform any situation. It's when we ask for God's glory to be manifested that His glory displaces our human frailties and makes possible what seems to us impossible."

In her just-released book, Empowering Women To Walk In God's Glory: A Practical Guide for Real Life Situations, as she shares stories from her life and others', Atkins guides women to find the path for walking in God's glory.

"It is frustrating when I think about how long we Christians have lived beneath our means as individuals in God's kingdom," Atkins says. "So many people think they have to put in 80-hour weeks to be productive, instead of tapping into His greatness."

Atkins has learned this through facing her share of life's challenges and heartache.

From the outside, it appears she has life all together. Raised in a Christian home, married to a Christian man with whom she has three children, she also enjoys a satisfying career working for a Fortune 500 company.

But she had to work hard to believe in herself, and even after receiving a college scholarship to study chemical engineering, faced down a respected professor advising her to consider another major.

Atkins has also experienced healing from a debilitating disease, and faced chronic medical problems with her daughter.

Another child was diagnosed with dyslexia and couldn't read effectively or tie his shoes until middle school, despite countless medical and educational interventions. Today, he is in college and succeeding, she says, because of God's power and glory.

She and her family lived outside New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit, and were forced to evacuate and face the loss of their home. Living in a community that was more than three-quarters destroyed by Katrina, one of Atkins' faith-building experiences was the deliverance God gave her family.

"Not just at Thanksgiving but in every season, I'm so thankful for the privilege and gift we have from God to call on Him, and enjoy the supernatural possibilities He provides," Atkins concludes. "That's walking in His glory."

A Bible teacher, Atkins speaks for women's groups and has served for more than 20 years as women's ministries director for her church. For more information, visit www.kimberlyatkins.net.
