Abortion Kidnap Legislation Hailed by Ecumenical Pro-life Center

Contact: Day Gardner, National Pro-Life Action Center, 202-834-0844

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- Stephen G. Peroutka, Esq., Chairman of the National Pro Life Action Center, (NPLAC), on Capitol Hill stated, “It’s unbelievable that a child needs her parents permission to go on a school sponsored field trip, yet without this law a young girl, a minor of any age can be dragged across state lines into an abortion facility have an abortion without the knowledge of her parents.”

The Child Custody Protection Act makes it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines to have an abortion with the intent of evading parental consent or parental notification laws in the minor's home state. The bill also requires abortion providers in interstate abortions to provide notification of the minor's decision to the minor's parents or legal guardian 24 hours before the abortion is performed.

“Many minors are under pressure to have an abortion from older boyfriends or even abortion providers,” said Dr. Paul Schenck Executive Director of NPLAC. “This important legislation serves to protect the rights of parents while also protecting their vulnerable young daughters.”

The Child Custody Protection Act, S. 403, is aimed at helping protect minors from being exploited or coerced into having an abortion. The bill passed by a vote of 264-153.
