Christian Newswire/ -- A new release presents a year of daily devotions inspired by the spiritual practice of quiet listening, or two-way prayer. Stephen Van Zant's Heaven Calling: Faith for Today (Redemption Press) is compiled from fourteen years of his prayer journals. First drawn to faith by the simple messages of a 1930 work written anonymously by the "Two Listeners," Van Zant began to practice two-way prayer, or quiet listening in his own morning devotions and experienced an added sense of joy, peace, and insight as a result.
Van Zant, an author, and an attorney with a degree in American literature, recorded his impressions in twenty-three journals. He says, "I offer this book as an amateur's collection of personal quiet times and in the spirit of 'sharing my notes' with you."
The Kentucky resident says, "This is a book for the humble. It is for those who recognize they are broken and in need of a Savior who has the power to renew them day by day." He adds, "The entries included in this devotional reveal my daily personal struggle to find peace and joy. I have had my fair share of problems and personal trials through twenty-six years of marriage, raising four children, family health issues, practicing law, and experiencing a business failure. . . . When I was experiencing the greatest stress, my journal entries had greater meaning."
