First Devotional Available for Chaplains Out on Disaster Relief

ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 6, 2021 /Christian Newswire/ -- If resources are available for disaster relief teams to meet the needs of those facing the crises, how much more important is it for disaster relief chaplains to meet the spiritual needs of those volunteering on his or her crew?

With the recent natural disasters across the country, this has never been more true and timely. But the problem comes when a chaplain is embedded in a unit, working all day as a chainsaw person (or other type of unit), and is given short notice to provide devotions for a crew, whether first thing in the morning or at the end of the workday.

In attending and teaching various disaster relief seminars and training sessions across the nation, Chaplain James (Jim) R. Ellsworth discovered there was a lack of adequate resources for volunteer chaplains to meet the spiritual needs of their teams.

Just as extra funding was readily made available to the disaster relief organizations of Michigan,* James (Jim) R. Ellsworth, state chaplain for the Michigan Southern Baptist Disaster Relief of Michigan, provides a timely support resource of encouragement for chaplain volunteers and their teams involved in the deluge of disaster relief.

Chaplain Ellsworth says it is his prayer that these devotionals will "help crews to stay healthy physically and spiritually."

From a seasoned volunteer chaplain for volunteer chaplains, this one-of-a-kind devotional is a refreshing shower after a long, hard, dirty day for volunteers in the trenches of service. When teams are emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted, they need a spiritual rejuvenation that empowers them into the next day's relief efforts. 50 Devotionals for Disaster Relief Chaplains will do just that.
