NASHVILLE, Oct. 4, 2022 /Christian Newswire/ -- Hawken Horse's first record, featuring songs about mountain men, embraced in strongly publicized debut.

In an era when American history is being skipped in schools, monuments are being torn down and Disney+ proceeds Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier with a disclaimer, Hawken Horse is embracing history with a buckskinned bear hug.

Hawken Horse was founded by hit songwriter Andrew Scott Wills, who wants to use his song-crafting skills to promote his first love: frontier history.

"I was a super nerdy homeschooler," Wills laughs. "I was so fascinated with Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton and Hugh Glass at a young age. To this day I read every book I can find about frontiersmen."

The self-titled debut record was inspired by stories of the Rocky Mountain fur trade and a young nation's rush to fulfill the demand for beaver pelts. The project has quickly garnered coverage from American Frontiersman Magazine, Muzzleloader Magazine and outdoor patriarch FUR, FISH and GAME Magazine.

"One of my favorite movies of all time is Jeremiah Johnson," Wills says. "I want to give the modern mountain man a connection to those who came before them. History matters and I want to be a reason it lives on."

The Instagram account @HawkenHorseBand is the most popular place to follow the band, where there are daily posts from history.

The album is available on streaming platforms and CDs are available at HawkenHorse.com.
