DRESDEN, Ohio, Oct. 17, 2019 /Christian Newswire/ -- "The Reliant" is a PG-13 faith-based action film starring Kevin Sorbo, Brian Bosworth, Eric Roberts, Nicole C. Mullen, and the Benham Brothers. It releases to more than 750 theaters on October 24, one-night-only.

Endorsed by the NRA, The Well Armed Woman, and executive-produced by the U.S. Concealed Carry Association, the hate mail from the anti-gun crowd is profuse.

Even so, "The Reliant" has won 18 First Place film festival awards, with 5 of those awards coming from secular festivals! So their message might not be as offensive as the leftist bloggers have assumed from the trailers.

The writer and producer of "The Reliant" is also the author of the novel by the same name: Dr. J. Patrick Johnston, a family physician in North Carolina with ten children. His wife and fellow producer, Elizabeth, is better known as The Activist Mommy, whose viral video blogs have been viewed over 70 million times.

The movie's website reads: "An economic catastrophe precipitates widespread rioting and social unrest across the nation, leaving a lovesick 21-year-old girl struggling to care for her siblings in a stretch of woods bordered by lawless anarchy, wondering why a good God would let this happen."

Why would a good God let bad things happen to good people? That oft-troubling question lies at the center of "The Reliant."

"I have rarely heard an answer to that moral dilemma that satisfies me," Dr. Johnston admits. "I wanted to created an action-packed movie that honored God in its answers to the hard questions about God's government, yet didn't insult the intelligence of the unbeliever. I also wanted to uphold our natural, God-given right to keep-and-bear arms. The movie is as relevant as it is realistic, competing with secular movies with its quality, yet with the potential to change lives through its powerful message of redemption through Jesus."

Realistic indeed! The MPAA gave them an "R" rating last year because of their realistic violence. "We weren't nearly as violent as many mainstream PG-13 movies," Dr. Johnston says, "but we all know that God and Guns makes libs heads explode."

I'm sure he means that figuratively, but you wouldn't know that from reading the leftist blogs bashing the film. Even so, the leftists seem to be encouraging others to go watch the movie: "Watch Sorbo Fight Antifa in this Bat***t Trailer" reads the title from one leftist blogger.

The trailer can be viewed and tickets purchased for the Oct. 24 showing at www.TheReliant.net. "The Reliant" comes to DVD on Dec. 3 and the Abbey-Road-recorded score releases as a soundtrack two weeks later.
