Mystery Set at a Racetrack Employs Contemporary Realism

ENUMCLAW, Wash., Nov. 16, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- In step with a culture that puts increasing emphasis on realism and honesty, some Christian fiction authors are following the trend by addressing tougher issues. In a Publisher's Weekly article of March 12, 2018, "Contemporary Realism Empowers More Christian Fiction," by Samantha A. Maldonado, Shannon Marchese, senior editor at WaterBrook, says, "Readers are willing to confront today's difficult problems and writers have the ability to 'go there' in writing about them, thanks to cultural shifts that have put a premium on authenticity and honesty."

Author Nicole Petrino-Salter does just that in her first contemporary mystery, Race (Reliant Publishing), as she realistically portrays the lives of individuals in the horse racing world. In Race, Detective David James searches for the killer of a popular Thoroughbred assistant trainer in this raw, romantic, and redemptive novel. The novel is a realistic window into the lives of hard-living racetrackers through the eyes of a detective who has his own choice to make between heaven and hell.

"My novel differs from others in Christian fiction because I include the raw behaviors of those in the world. I do this for realistic contrast between the world's lifestyles and conduct and God's directions for our lives," says Petrino-Salter. The book also has the benefit of her thirty years in horse racing. While this is her first mystery, she is the author of five published romances, Hope of Glory, The Famous One, Breath of Life, Destination, and Sweet Release with more novels in process.
