Trump Administration Endangers Religious Liberty with Feldblum Re-Nomination

Contact: Brad Dacus, Pacific Justice Institute, 916-616-4126

WASHINGTON, March 16, 2018 /Christian Newswire/ -- President Trump announced that he has nominated Chai Feldblum for another five-year term as the Democratic member of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). However, Feldblum is not the typical Democratic appointee, due to her extremist views that stretch far outside the opinions of mainstream liberals.

She was first nominated in April 2010 by the Obama Administration. Before assuming her position as the first openly lesbian Commissioner of the EEOC, Feldblum established herself as an outspoken liberal activist who aggressively advocates for supremacy of LGBT rights over religious liberty. Along with her characteristic trend of burdening religious practices to advance LGBT agendas, Feldblum endorses polygamy and holds that the institution of marriage offers no value to society.

This radical EEOC Commissioner, whose current term ends July 2018, holds the opinion that "there can be conflict between religious liberty and sexual liberty, but in almost all cases the sexual liberty should win." The position of Commissioner in this independent federal agency holds the power to approve commission policies, issue charges of discrimination when they deem appropriate, and authorize the filing of lawsuits.

If Feldblum keeps her post as Commissioner for yet another five years, there will be a definitive, devastating shift in the EEOC's application of discrimination laws regarding Christians in the workplace who genuinely desire to practice their faith.

Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, commented, "Without question, President Trump has advanced religious liberty in a number of ways, from the nomination of Justice Gorsuch to the appointment of Ambassador Brownback and the groundbreaking religious liberty memo from Attorney General Sessions. At times, though, the Administration seems to forget that it was put in place by millions of conservatives, not radical Leftists. The Feldblum re-nomination is a direct threat to religious freedom, and voters need to let the White House know this is unacceptable."
