National Leaders Call for Alabama to Enforce Common-Sense Regulations at Statewide Rally

Contact: Fr. Terry Gensemer, CEC For Life, 205-253-0159

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Dec. 14, 2017 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Friday, December 15th, pro-life citizens will gather on the steps of the Montgomery RSA Tower for a statewide rally calling for the revocation of Planned Parenthood of Birmingham's license, issued by the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH).

"Rally at the RSA" will feature national and local leaders, including:

    Catherine Davis, The Restoration Project

Fr. Terry Gensemer, Charismatic Episcopal Church For Life

Sam McLure, The Adoption Law Firm

    Natalie Brumfield, Bound4Life Birmingham

Michelle Rowe, 40 Days for Life Montgomery

This event is part of an ongoing campaign that began early in 2017 after the release of an alarming deficiency report from the ADPH regarding Planned Parenthood of Birmingham. The report revealed serious infractions that put the health of all patients at risk, including failure to sterilize medical instruments, test employees for TB and Hepatitis B, document fetal viability, or to guarantee that women view an ultrasound.

Leaders within the campaign confirm that they brought concerns about the dangerous facility to the ADPH, the Governor, the Attorney General and the Board of Medical Examiners, but not one office has taken action to assure citizens that Planned Parenthood has ceased these egregious practices, or even been inspected a second time since the last report.

Fr. Terry Gensemer of CEC For Life comments, "State agencies like the ADPH are created to protect the life of citizens, not subpar abortion facilities. This Planned Parenthood has a documented history of ignoring state laws and harming women, yet it continues to be relicensed year after year. We have solid laws on the books in this state. Our agencies just seem unwilling to enforce them."

Also in Alabama, African American women have 62% of the abortions while African Americans only make up 26% of the population. That disproportionate rate is one of the highest in the country.

Catherine Davis, a prominent pro-life leader in the Black community and Director of The Restoration Project, confirms a direct correlation between this high percentage and apathy within state agencies. She helped lead a similar campaign in Alabama just two years back, when ADPH refused to take action against an illegal abortion operation in the city of Selma which targeted low-income Black women.

Davis comments, "Most citizens believe their state public health officials work to protect them from substandard medical care. That is not the case for women in Alabama, especially Black women. The ADPH has repeatedly turned a blind eye to Planned Parenthood's violations of state laws and sound medical practices. I can't help but ask, is it because Planned Parenthood primarily eliminates the Black population?"

The Rally will take place Friday, Dec. 15th, at 11 AM directly in front of the RSA Tower located at 201 Monroe Street. Speakers will be available for comment before and after the event.
