ROCKFORD, Ill., August 11, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Memorial Service for Dr. John A. Howard will be held on Saturday, August 29th at 11:00AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2821 N. Dr. John Addison Howard, the namesake and Senior Fellow of The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society and International Ambassador for World Congress of Families died Thursday night in his sleep. He was a week shy of his 94th birthday.
 
Dr. Howard served as President of Rockford College for seventeen years and as national President of the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities for three years. In 1976, he launched The Rockford College Institute, becoming its full time director the following year. In 1979, Dr. Howard became President of the independent and renamed Rockford Institute, retiring from that post in 1986. Eleven years later, several Institute programs including The Family In America and the World Congress of Families were reorganized as The Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society, named in his honor.
