WASHINGTON, Sept. 11, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- In his speech discussing his plan for dealing with ISIL, President Obama says, "and the vast majority of ISIL's victims have been Muslim." This is simply not true.

The President then went on to say, "And it is America that is helping Muslim communities around the world not just in the fight against terrorism, but in the fight for opportunity and tolerance and a more hopeful future."

The President's failure to confront the barbarism, violence and hatred against Christians, Yazidis, other religious minorities and women in Iraq by ISIL is tragic and shows a stunning disregard and lack of sensitivity for their plight and basic principles of compassion and justice.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition. who has a long history of working of working with Muslims,  Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East, responds to President Obama's speech;

    "In his speech last night on how America is going to deal with ISIL, President Obama misled the American public and betrayed our fundamental principles of human rights and religious freedom.

    "It is simply NOT true, that the vast majority of ISIL's victims have been Muslims. The President failed to mention the tens of thousands of Christians, Yazidis and other religious minorities who have been driven from their homes, brutalized, tortured, forced to hide in the mountains for their safety and their having to watch their children die in their arms.

    "His failure to address the full scope of violence directed toward these religious minorities by ISIL shows a stunning disregard and lack of sensitivity for their plight and basic principles of compassion and justice.  One can only imagine how Iraqi Christians and Yazidis felt watching that speech last night.

    "President Obama also said, 'And it is America that is helping Muslim communities around the world not just in the fight against terrorism, but in the fight for opportunity and tolerance and a more hopeful future.' Not ONCE did President Obama mention how America is helping the Christian and other faith communities of Iraq who are suffering unspeakable horrors and still cannot return to their homes.

    "Finally, it appears this President is treating the women of Iraq like the NFL by failing to mention how they are being uniquely targeted by ISIL for rape, violence, mutilation and trafficking.  Perhaps if the President saw a video of women being thrown in prison and raped and mutilated he would have passionately addressed their situation.

    "Simply stated, President Obama, address the full scope of  ISIL's barbarism, hatred and violence."
