Contact: Stephen Jenks, Eagles' Wings, 716-759-1058

LOS ANGELES, March 31, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Sunday evening, April 6, Dr. Robert Stearns will address the Friends of the IDF's third annual "Saving Lives Gala" in Los Angeles, CA. Hosted at The Beverly Hilton Hotel, this year's event is sponsored by the Western Region/Los Angeles chapter of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) and the local Russian Jewish community. As founder and executive director of Eagles' Wings, Stearns has been a strong advocate and ally of Israel for more than two decades through initiatives such as the Israel Experience College Scholarship program and the internationally celebrated Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem (DPPJ). With over 175 nations participating on the first Sunday of every October, the DPPJ is one of the largest Israel-focused prayer events in history.

Stearns remarked, "It is critical for support for Israel to be made known today. That support for Israel includes honoring and undergirding the brave men and women who faithfully serve and protect Israel. I am honored to share words of encouragement and commitment at this important event."

Established in 1981 by a group of Holocaust survivors, the Friends of the IDF organization is dedicated to supporting the young men and women soldiers who protect and preserve their homeland. The FIDF offers a range of programs and assistance that meet the needs of the IDF soldiers, such as educational assistance, financial support, medical recovery, spiritual enrichment, and care for bereaved families. This year's gala event is expected to raise hundreds of thousands toward these practical needs and will include the presentation of the Si Frumkin Award in memory of Soviet Jewry activist Si Frumkin, who was an important member of the Russian Jewish community of southern California for many years. Stearns added, "Si Frumkin was a close friend of mine, and a supporter of Eagles Wings. I am glad to stand with his wife, Ella, as we honor his legacy and memory."
